National Leadership Keynotes

Chairing the first session for day two of Summer School 2021 will be social entrepreneur, Lord Victor Adebowale,, chairman of the NHS Conferation and co-founder of Visionable.

The session will begin with a keenly anticipated national leadership keynote from Simon Bolton, the new interim CEO of NHS Digital. In one of his first speeches since taking up the role, Simon will outline the new direction for NHS Digital as the NHS begins to plan for reset and recovery, and a raft of major policy initiatives are in train. Top of Simon’s inbox is the new GP Data for Planning and Research initiative, for which public consultation has just been extended to the start of September.

Our second speaker is Matthew Gould, CEO NHSX, making a very welcome return to Virtual Summer School. Matthew will sketch out the busy policy agenda on digital and data and outline how digital can support the NHS through the next phase of the pandemic and meet the huge challenges of recovery.

Our third morning keynote speaker Diana Kennedy, chief technology officer for BUPA, a post she took up in the midst of the pandemic, moving across from being CTO of BP. Diana will explain how BUPA plans to become the most digital healthcare system in the World.

The EPR – necessary but not sufficient - Dedalus
Over the past few years, many secondary care trusts have been focussed on the implementation of EPRs within their organisations. As we look forward to operating as connected health and care systems through ICSs, it is clear that the current model of EPRs will not be capable of delivering the capabilities necessary for systemwide transformation. At Dedalus, we believe that a new approach is required – one utilises a platform-based approach utilising open data standards and open APIs to unlock the data in our organisations, connect our systems and extend functionality beyond the walls of individual institutions. This is a more Intelligent and faster way of delivering transformative digital capabilities, starting from where you are and leveraging investments that have already been made.
