Defining digital sovereignty for the NHS: developing a shared vision
As the NHS becomes increasingly dependent on digital platforms, cloud services, AI and data-driven technologies, questions around digital sovereignty are rising up the agenda. What does sovereignty mean in practice for NHS organisations, and how can leaders balance innovation, security, resilience and supplier dependency while maintaining control over critical systems, data and decision-making?
This highly interactive workshop will explore the strategic, operational and ethical dimensions of digital sovereignty, examining the role of standards, interoperability, procurement, data governance and partnerships in creating a more resilient digital future. Through facilitated discussion, participants will share experiences, identify key challenges and debate potential approaches to strengthening digital sovereignty across health and care. The session will culminate in the co-creation of a practical set of principles, priorities and recommendations that attendees can take back to their organisations and that can help shape future thinking across the NHS digital community.
