Developing a digital profession
We are very pleased to be running a workshop at this year’s Digital Health Summer School, where we will explore what it really takes to develop and sustain a modern digital profession in health and care, one that is recognised, supported, and trusted across organisational boundaries. The session comes at a pivotal moment. Recent signals, including the NHS England announcement reinforcing the importance of a skilled, professional digital workforce, highlight a growing national commitment to formalising digital roles, strengthening capability, and ensuring consistent standards across the system.
Digital transformation is no longer a supporting function, it is central to safe, effective, and personalised care. Yet the workforce underpinning this transformation has often developed in an ad hoc way, with varied roles, unclear career pathways, and inconsistent professional recognition.
This will be a highly interactive session considering:
What does it mean to be a digital professional in health and care
How do move from fragmented and inconsistent roles to clear, supported career pathways from entry-level to expert leadership
How to ensure quality and consistency and a culture of continuing professional development
What role do standards, accreditation and professional bodies like BCS and FEDIP play in this journey.
