What should we stop doing? Technology, skill decay and the future NHS workforce
As digital technologies, automation and AI become embedded in healthcare, some skills will inevitably change, evolve or disappear. But not all skill decay is a bad thing. Healthcare has always adapted as new technologies have replaced older ways of working. The real challenge is deciding which skills can safely be handed over to technology, and which remain essential for safe, effective and compassionate care.
In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the implications of emerging technologies for the future workforce, examining the balance between human expertise and digital capability. Through facilitated discussion, attendees will identify the skills the NHS should preserve, the skills it may no longer need, and the new capabilities required to thrive in the decade ahead. The session will produce a set of recommendations and key questions for leaders shaping workforce and digital transformation strategies.
