Offering a deep dive into the local Birmingham health and care systems this session will explore 12 months system wide digital integration in healthcare. Local digital leaders will share their insights into the journey from initial digital engagement to comprehensive oversight. Together, they will explore the strategic role of digital technology within business processes, despite financial limitations. The panel session will touch upon the facets of primary, secondary, community, and social care, and explore the strategies for further evolution and acceleration of digital leadership and collective action.

Mandy Nagra
Chief Delivery Officer – NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (ICB)
Mandy Nagra graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in chemistry with medicinal chemistry. After university, Mandy was hired by pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, before joining the pharmacy department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
After spending six years at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Mandy gained experience at a local, regional and national level at a variety of provider, commissioner and regulator organisations over the course of 28 years.
In July 2018, Mandy was appointed as the first System Chief Operating Officer for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, where she was instrumental in improving operational delivery across the system and embedding the first phase of integrated care communities.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mandy went on secondment as NHS England and Improvement’s System Chief Operating Officer for East of England.
In January 2020, Mandy joined the Integrated Care System (ICS) for the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS’s as Executive System Chief Operating Officer, to support their transition to the next phase of ICS development.
In November 2020, Mandy was appointed Chief Executive of Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington and Altrincham Hospitals, where she led various large-scale transformation, innovation and improvement programmes.
In May 2022, Mandy was appointed as the Chief Delivery Officer of the NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (ICB), which forms part of the Birmingham and Solihull ICS.
In her new role, Mandy will ensure high quality and equitable patient care is delivered by collaborative system partners whilst also supporting the system’s goals of enhancing productivity and value for money.
Nick O’Reilly
Director of Digital – NHS Birmingham and Solihull ICB
Nick O’Reilly, Director of Digital at Birmingham ICB. 35 years in digital and technology roles initially in local government and since 2016 in the NHS. Now leading the system wide digital strategy for Birmingham and Solihull having led technology functions and DDaT enabled business transformation programmes for 15 years.
Dr Masood Nazir
Medical Director Integrated Care and Chief Clinical Information Officer – NHS Birmingham & Solihull ICB
Masood is a passionate advocate for creating a cohesive healthcare system to provide better, safer, and more effective care. With expertise in delivering large-scale projects, he has played influential roles in organizations like NHSx and Push Doctor. Masood’s accomplishments include leading transformative initiatives such as the Patient Online program and the Your Care Connected program, benefiting millions of patients. Currently, as the Managing GP Partner of a major Birmingham practice, he oversees the well-being of over 30,000 registered patients.
Dr James Reed
CCIO – Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS FT
James Reed is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Chief Clinical Information Officer at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS FT. He was first appointed as CCIO in 2013 and during this time has overseen a range of digital projects including BSMHFT’s role in the Global Digital Exemplar Programme. He is also clinical lead for the West Midlands Shared Care Record programme. James has been involved in the CCIO network since its inception and has been on the advisory panel for the last 6 years and was elected chair in 2019 and re-elected in 2021.
Daniel Ray
Chief Technology Officer – Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital
Daniel Ray has worked in health technology and informatics for over 20 years. He is CTO and DPO of Birmingham Womens and Childrens NHS FT where he has been since January 2020. He has with his team and clinical staff driven forward the development, use and uptake of technology during the COVID pandemic crisis and now onto the Trusts EPRs for their different services. He is also a NED/Trustee on the board of an allergy charity NARF and historically in his previous role was Director of Data at NHS Digital; responsible for developing the organisation’s data capability. Daniel was the product owner of the new national data services platform. Daniel in his national role was responsible for all technical data and product delivery for the £50m Data Insights and Statistics Directorate, and lead a number of operational teams. Prior to this he was Director of Informatics at a large teaching hospital in England, where he transformed the health informatics service, set up a quality outcomes research unit, and developed a patient portal among other work programmes.
He also set up commercial analytics businesses in England, Australia, the US and Italy. He has worked in commissioning in the NHS, the private sector and a number of other acute hospitals. He started out life as a clinician in laboratory medicine.
He is also honorary professor of health informatics at UCL’s Institute of Health Informatics, where he gets involved in leading edge research and teaching.

Eddie Olla
Chief Digital Officer, Coventry and Warwickshire ICB
Eddie joined the National Health Service (NHS) in 1988 and has worked as a clinician in secondary and primary care sectors. Eddie moved into the IT sector utilising his clinical knowledge and skills which has proved valuable in helping organisations to improve patient experience and increase the quality of care.
As a non-practicing clinician and digital expert, Eddie is enthusiastic about innovative technologies and their application in Healthcare. Eddie believes that clinicians have a key role to play in the delivery of digital, interoperable electronic health records, artificial intelligence and population health management.
Eddie is a graduate of the NHS Leadership Academy Executive Directors programme and is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion to address healthcare inequalities for patients and championing equality for all staff.
